Facts About Italy

  • Italy has 60,000,000 people.

  • 95% of Italians say they are Catholic, but only 5% are active Catholics.

  • Less than 1% of Italy’s 60 million citizens are evangelical Christians.

  • Over 31,000 cities and towns have no evangelical witness. Italy only has 34,000 cities and towns! Most cities in Italy have no Bible Study, Accountability Group, Prayer Group, or anything for Christians to grow in God’s grace.

  • It’s been said that in Italy there is only one trained evangelical pastor for every 50,000 people. In the USA there is one for every 1000 people.

  • According to a recent Vatican release, Italy has the 2nd lowest Bible literacy rate in all of Europe.

Most people do not think that Italy needs missions because they are all Christians. If this is true we must ask ourselves, how well can anyone know God apart from his Word? How faithful can one be to the Lord if they don't know his Word or will? How well can one love God without His Word in their heart?

  • 90% of all long-term missionaries who go to Italy leave within four years. More missionaries leave Italy than any other place!

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’

Matthew 25:35-36
